BENEFITS FOR CARS USING CNG
Green Fuel and Safe Fuel.
Commonly referred to as the green fuel CNG reduces harmful emissions as well as enhances the longevity of spark plugs.
The properties of CNG make it a safe fuel. It is stored in certified high gauge seamless cylinders , it is light in nature and disperses in atmosphere easily in case of a leak.
Low running cost
The operational cost of vehicles running on CNG, as compared to those running on other fuels, is comparatively low and helps in cost saving for the user of a CNG vehicle.
Dual facility
CNG Vehicle can run both on CNG and Petrol.
Life of Engineer oil increases.
Life of the vehicle engineer oil increases as CNG does not dilute or contaminate the crankcase oil.
Advantages and disadvantages of CNG gas conversion kits
CNG is compressed natural gas and can be used as an petrol alterative in cars Honda City, wagon r, Tata Indigo, Hyundai i-10, i-20, Alto. To run our car on CNG gas we need CNG conversion kit.
CNG conversion kit contains parts by which we can run our car on CNG. CNG Gas kit contains High pressure pipe, CNG Filling valve, Emulator, CNG switch, Lambda System, Pressure gauge, Timing advance processor, screws. CNG tank comes separate from gas conversion kit.
CNG switch is used to run car on CNG fuel. Before some years changeover was done manually. Now automatic conversion takes place from petrol to CNG fuel. There are many advantages as well as disadvantages of CNG fuel system.
Advantages of CNG:
Economic Benefits
If citizens switch to CNG, the money spent by the Government on Trinidad and Tobago on the fuel subsidy (Super, Diesel and Premium) can then be relocated to other sectors which may need funding. Foreign exchange can also be generated by selling the liquid fuels which aren’t being used.
Safety
CNG has a flammability rating of approximately 5 percent – 15 percent, which makes it less flammable and safer than other fuels.
Also, in the event of a collision, CNG cylinders are less dangerous than gasoline and diesel tanks because of its size, structure, and location within the vehicle. These cylinders have safety devices which are designed to release the gas if there a higher than normal pressure or temperature.
Not a Fire Hazard
The ignition temperature of CNG is 600⁰C, which is higher than gasoline (320⁰C) and diesel (285⁰C). This means that CNG vehicles are less likely to catch fire under any circumstances. In the event of a leak, CNG is lighter than air, meaning that it will dissipate into the atmosphere, unlike gasoline or diesel which pools on the ground and serves as a fire hazard.
Cleaner Fuel
CNG does not have sulphur, particulate matter, traces of heavy metals or toxic additives in it, which may contaminate your motor oil.
Lower maintenance costs
The maintenance cost of your vehicle will be cut down since there can be longer periods between tune-ups and oil changes.
Better performance
Dedicated natural gas engines are superior in performance to gasoline engines because natural gas has an octane rating of approximately 130, whereas super and unleaded have octane levels of 95 and 97 respectively.
Even though there are many improvements that need to be made to ensure a smooth transition from gasoline and diesel fuels to Compressed Natural Gas, one can agree that the benefits that come from using CNG are very appealing.
In the future, it can be predicted that many more citizens will be keen on either converting to CNG or purchasing CNG vehicles.
Disadvantages of CNG:
CNG tanks require storage space. You may need to sacrifice some of the space in the trunk (for cars), truck bed (for pickup trucks) or behind the back seat (for SUVs). The CNG cylinder can be heavy, the added weight of the tank is offset by the reduced weight of a gasoline fuel.
CNG Filling stations have limited availability. CNG conversion is most practical and convenient for people living in areas with easy access to CNG filling stations -or- consider installing a Home CNG Fueling Unit
CNG Gas stations have limited availability. So if your country or state doesn’t have CNG stations, it is of no use. In India some states have good CNG Stations network.
CNG tank requires need large space and it is heavy. So it affects reliability and car performance.
CNG gas kit Cost: CNG gas kit prices are between 35000 Rs to 45000 Rs. But it can be recovered by fuel savings.
Savings Basic Calculations
Fill up the tank, note the odometer reading and drive for around 200 km. If you have you have to fill up the tank with say, 15 litres of petrol, then the fuel efficiency of your car is 13.33 kmpl.
Now petrol costs Rs. 90.00 per litre, so your per kilometer travel will cost Rs90.00/13.33 or Rs. 6.75/=
Now Suppose if you are driving a CNG Car the CNG Costs Rs.55/= Per Kg of Gas and Runs an average of about 18 Km per KG then the Running Cost is Rs. 55/18.00 which is Rs. 3.05 Cost. And the Saving are of Rs, 3.70/= Per Km you Travel so as assumed earlier if you Travelled the Same Distance of 200 Km on CNG you Would Land Up Saving Rs. 650. Almost on that trip itself in Comparison to Petrol.
